I have been reading through the DCPS forum and the private school forum. At present, it seems pretty unclear to what extent any of those schools will be operating full-time and in-person next year. Is PK4 at a daycare the best option if you want to make sure your child will be somewhere in-person everyday?
Our daycare currently operates on a normal, full-time schedule. |
The River School in NW DC (Palisades) has been 5-full-days since the start of this school year. From 18 months to 3rd grade. Beforecare and aftercare were eliminated due to the pandemic -- children are kept in single-class cohorts and before/aftercare mingled several classes previously.

Try outdoor kindergarten or pk |
Well, 99% of districts in the country will be full time IPL. So, moving is the other option. |
Our church preschool has been open since June. Most kids only go half day but it does have full day options. Our previous preschool was half day only and didn't open till January. So yes, I would say preschools that have clients who need them to stay open for work are more likely to be open over one where most clients are sahm |
No one on DCUM knows what DCPS will look like in the fall. And those who say they do are lying. If you want IPL, hedge your bets and have a back up option. |
