when did you turn carseat face forward?

Have a taller daughter, she is currently 20 months but she is already kicking up the backseat. I know it's safest to keep them rear facing as long as possible, but just wondering what other folks turned their. carseat forward facing? Is it horrible if I flip the carseat by the time she turns 2?

I turned the seat around at 15 months.

My kids are teens. I turned my oldest at 3 1/2 and my youngest at 2 1/2 when they both reached the rear facing weight limit on their seats. Both either sat their legs hanging over the side of the car seat, cross legged or with their feet pressed against the seat back. Neither ever complained of being uncomfortable.

We're still rear-facing at 26 months but she's cramped in there. I thought that the guidance says to try to stay RF until 4, but that seems impossible based on how she fits now. The car seat she's in says keep her RF until 45 lbs or 44 in; she'll hit 44 inches long before 45 lbs.

Still rear facing at 3.5. She is 40 inches and 35 pounds. Plan for keep her rear facing for the foreseeable future.

2.5. He was in the 99th percentile for height. He was not uncomfortable and within the height limits.

Height is not a reason to turn.

Older DD is 5. We turned her around a few months before she turned 3. She used to get nauseous on longer drives (like, more than 10 minutes) and was miserable in the car.
Unless we encounter a similar problem with younger DD, we will keep her rear-facing until 3.

We turned him at 4 based on the body of evidence referred to here: https://csftl.org/why-rear-facing-the-science-junkies-guide/

Still rear facing, just turned 3. Kid is in the 90th percentile for height but 40th for weight.

2.5 for the first. She just kept puking. Turning her fixed it. My 2nd kid is still going strong at 2.5. My kids are 99th percentile height. Their legs aren't squished at all and they're comfortable, but we got big car seats (maxi cosi pria).

That's illegal in most states now btw. It's 2 years old.

Age 4, which is recommended best practice (or when they outgrow the seat at 40 pounds RF and you cannot get another seat with a higher weight limit).

My older child will be 4 in a couple weeks and is still rear facing. She’s 39” and 31lbs so still well within the limits for her seat. I’ve told her that when she turns 4 we can look at getting her a forward facing seat—but I’m not in a rush to make the switch. (She’s currently in a Graco4Ever and if you turn it forward before 40lbs you are required to use a deep, awkward recline so we’ll switch seats since we didn’t realize at the time of purchase that it may well take her until age 6+ to hit 40lbs.)

Car seat tech here: to answer your question, is it horrible to turn it around when she is 2....... It will be horrible for everyone if you get in a bad accident and she breaks her neck or gets a serious spine injury right? Keep her rear facing until she exceeds the height/weight of the seat she is in. Our recommendation is at least age 3, preferably 4. Don’t worry about their legs, they can hang over the side or sit cross crossed. It’s the neck/spine you need to be concerned about.

Both were turned 1-2 months after turning 2.
