We still need to finish the job. Many people still don’t believe that black lives matter. |
I just learned that "anti-racist" does not just mean that you are against racism. It means that you must buy into a whole lot of other actions that you may not support. Just like Black Lives Matter, while having a good message, has leaders with very deep connections to Marxism. The money is filtered through a woman who was a terrorist. She was pardoned by President Obama. There is a lot that sincere people--Black and white--do not know about some of the terms used. I intend to learn more about it, and others should, as well. |
I will concede to removing Confederate statues....even though doing so IMHO does nothing to end racism. But when you start talking about removing names/statues of US Presidents and others such as George Mason....and calling out old series, movies, etc....yes, I disagree. I also disagree about someone being called out/ostracized for something they did or said 20 years ago. If there's evidence that it was repetitive racism sure...but not for a one time slip up/mistake made in the past. George Washington owned slaves....he was a product of his time. Yes it was wrong, but you don't judge someone on the one mistake they made. I love watching Gone with the Wind, I love watching old classic movies....love all Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne movies, etc....I also grew up watching The Cosby Show A Different World and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. |
Dear bot / troll: stop bumping the thread with lame nonsense like this. Very few think reparations are the right way to “finish the job.” |
+100 PP is completely right. No matter how many lives were lost in the Civil War, reparations need to be made to close out that chapter, as well as the following 100 years of life in this country with no rights. We were promised 40 acres and a mule back then. How much is that now when you add 155 years of inflation? |
I think this should be done at the state level.
States should collect the monies and give them to people of color. |
That will work out well in places like Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. |
Yes, it will allow the healing to begin. California is ready to start this right now! |
Whooosh. The poorest states in the country are the states with the worst slavery legacy and high proportions of POC. What could go wrong? Also, California's assembly passed a bill, but the state senate has yet to vote. So CA isn't ready to start quite yet. |
All this talk of "healing" is really vague but essentially means "payback." Healing is probably the least likely outcome. It would lead to a lot of resentment among recent immigrants and others, and would give Cons an excuse to say "we're done here, we can cancel TANF and all the other programs now." Let's do things that will meaningfully help this and future generations. Raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, universal healthcare, and subsidies to low-income individuals for education and housing. |
Yep. Now open your wallet or they'll call you names. |
40 acres and a mule in Alabama costs about $80,000. The catch is you have to move there and start farming. If emough of you go, it will turn the South blue, so it's a win-win. |
Meh. No one listens to conservatives anymore. It’s time to do the right thing instead of worrying about the amoral snowflakes will think. |
Oh ok. You’re definitely not a racist if you watched The Cosby Show. Thanks for the clarification. |
Define people of color. |
