20 Year Pimmit Hill resident - Ask Me Anything

As the subject line says, I've been here a good while now. I've seen some significant changes. I'm not sure if this neighborhood is as controversial on this forum as it used to be (is the Pimmit Panda still a thing?), but I'm here if you have questions.

Other than Idylwood and Magarity Pimmit Hills is a pretty large area that doesn’t seem to have significant cut through traffic. However, it doesn’t really seem there are lots of kids playing outside. Maybe it is just that way when I have occasion to drive around. Has that been your experience as well? Has the character or friendliness of neighbors changed over the past 20 years? I know McMansions were not really prevalent in 2000.

Did Greg Garcia interview for background when he was producing “My Name is Earl”?

Hi! There isn't a whole lot of cut-through traffic, even pre-pandemic. Speed bumps were put in on a few streets where speeding was an issue, though.

There are definitely kids playing here, but I think mostly in backyards because they can be quite big. You probably aren't seeing kids as you drive through because they are around back of the houses. (I raised two kids here myself.) Many of my neighbors have gates in fences between the houses to facilitate kids visiting each other.

I think the neighborhood has gotten friendlier over the years as we've had so many new arrivals looking for friends. When we moved here there were many original families and it could be hard to "break in" to the groups - they weren't looking to expand their social circle. They were all great people, though; many helped us out with house and kid emergencies without hesitation, but the picnics and gatherings were limited to people they already knew. That has changed a lot and now that we are one of the "old" families we try to be extra welcoming to new people because we remember how tough it was.

No, but I wish he had. That show was fantastic.

People on here slam it for being "surrounded by freeways." Does that really have a negative effect on your experience living there?

What are your favorite and least favorite things about it?

Are most of the women that live there really hot or is that a myth?

I haven't lived in Pimmit Hills as long, most of the families I know either have kids under 5 or in high school, so you only see them out for walks with their parents or playing at the parks (the high schoolers all seem to hang out in their basement.) We live on one of the dead end streets, and kids will ride around on their bikes/scooters, since there isn't much traffic.

I'm not the OP, but I'm hijacking this thread. Pimmit Hills doesn't get much, if any road noise from the highways. I think the location is great, because you can easily get onto 66, 495, and 267, depending on which corner of the neighborhood you pop out of, which makes it great for commuting.

Hi there. Being surrounded by freeways hasn't had a negative impact on my experience here. We live pretty deep into the neighborhood, so it doesn't feel at all like we are near them. You can hear a bit of traffic at night when we sleep with the windows open, but mostly we hear frogs. Living near all the highways is nice when it comes to getting places. We can be on 495 or 66 within minutes and have many, many alternatives if one route is backed up.

My favorite thing is fact we don't have an HOA. My least favorite thing is probably the lack of sidewalks on both sides of the street. But my husband likes that because there's less to shovel each winter.

Hi, I'm OP and I just posted the exact same thing before reading your comment. This is a wonderful place for commuting while still having a secluded neighborhood feel.

Hi, neighbor. I'm OP. Many of us with original Pimmit homes don't have basements. Our older teens hung out in the backyard around a fire pit. They also loved to congregate at Jason's Deli, pre-pandemic. As young teens and tweens, they rode bikes to the basketball courts by the library.

Someone from Pimmit Hills starts a new AMA-type thread every few months. It seems blatantly thirsty.

I’m OP. I guess the neighborhood does still provoke strong reactions in some people. I thought those days were over. Have a good day!
