FCPS in normal year what SOLs 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th

In a normal year, what SOLs are taken in each year of highschool? How many per year? TIA!

No one can give you a standard answer. They just dropped a some and made subjects like science “student choice”— kids pass one in Hs their choice. And will now let AP, ACT and SAT scores sub in for tests as well. It’s a mess and we haven’t had a normal year under the new plan.

You now need 2 English (reading and writing, both in 11th), 1 each math, science and social studies. But:

My kids AP Lang, SAT and ACT scores all cover the English
Her ACT score covers the math
Her AP World and APUSH scores would both count towards history
If she took AP lab science she wouldn’t need any. But she didn’t. She passed freshman Bio though, so she’s done.

My junior took Bio freshman year and passed. Had already passed algebra. She’s done. AP covers the history requirements. AP Lang or ACT scores or PSAT cover English.

I think the way this is going to work is that they give your kid Bio and Algebra I (and different kids hit Algebra I at different points) And world history if they don’t take AP world. Then stop testing once they pass an SOL. Plus 2 English SOLs in 11th if they don’t have the ACT, PSAT, SAT score or aren’t in AP Lang.

But no one has seen this plan in action because COVID waivers.

9th: World History 1, Geometry, (Algebra 2 if your child did Geometry in 8th), Biology
10th: World History 2, Algebra 2, Chemistry
11th: US/VA History, English (Writing - March) (Reading - May)
12th: None! (unless your child needs another credit on their diploma)

Hmm
We’re at an IB school. 9th graders take World History 2. Mine might not pass the SOL, due to ADHD/distance learn fail. Same for Biology.

10th graders take US Government - looks like no SOL?
11th graders take US/VA history OR IBhistory of the Americas.
12th grade IB kids take world topics - they don’t take World 1.

So if my kid bombs the SOLs this year, she must pass Chem in 10th and US/VA history in 11th, or she’s S.O.L.?

Or pass the WH AP, or APUSH or AP Gov, or US Gov. Or Physics, or the Bio, Chem or Physics AP.

I’m PP. It’s an IB school. There are zero AP classes.

It’s changed since this. Now they take the minimum number needed for graduation and don’t take any more. For example, they need to pass one math SOL so many do not take the Alg 2 SOL ever. They already passed Alg or Geometry. There is confusing info out there if they must sit for one SOL while in high school. Everything is extra confusing since no one took any with Covid last year.

Bottom line, SOLs are not as stressful for many kids in high school and the real high stakes tests come with AP or IB exams. They can retake SOLs needed for graduation if they struggle to pass.

To answer your other question, if your kid bombs the SOL there will be some sort of remediation and retake opportunity. There could be multiple opportunities to retake in future years too. The school will have some type of remediation plan if this is needed for graduation.

No there isn't. It is in elementary school and I think middle school. Then in high school you just take it in 11th along with the writing sol. The writing sol is every 3 years so 5th, 8th, and 11th.

Pretty sure the Algebra 2 SOL is required for graduation...
