Anatomy Scan

Anonymous
FTM here and just went in for my 20 week anatomy ultrasound. The ultrasound tech said she could see a cyst on the baby’s brain, something called Choroid Plexus Cyst. All my other generic/NT tests have come back normal- no chromosomal abnormalities. She told me not to Google the name the of this cyst because I will stress myself out. Has anyone else experienced an ultrasound where they discovered this type of cyst? Did it resolve itself? How long did it take? Thanks

An ultrasound tech should not be making diagnoses.

Op here- the doctor later confirmed the cysts during my appointment right after the ultrasound

These usually resolve on their own before birth. Your doctor is the only person who should report ultrasound findings to you. That technician was unprofessional and the incident should be reported to your doctor.

What did the doctor say? Did they recommend a second scan or a follow-up visit to discuss the diagnosis?

Yup, this is common. Our daughter had one (she’s 2 now). All other tests were normal. it’s very common and considered an incidental finding. Our MFM said she sees it at least once a week in normal fetuses. I got a growth scan at 32 weeks and it was gone. They almost always are! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and baby!

nbd. My now 5 year old (smart and perfect!) had this. I did a lot of research and it's becoming more common now just because ultrasounds can see so much better.
