ISO rental in a family friendly neighborhoods in the Silver Spring Area

Anonymous
Hi,

We are looking to relocate to the Silver Spring area to be closer to our jobs. We currently live in Arlington and work in Wheaton and Beltsville. Ideally we would like to rent a single family house for less than $1800/month. If anyone has any recommendations for family friendly neighborhoods ( we have a 4 yr old, 2.5 year old and baby #3 is due in May) we would appreciate it.

Thanks!

There's a house on Loraine Ave in Silver Spring (4 corners/woodmore) that is a rental. It actually had a fire a few months back and the whole house had been redone but looks to be finished now...the old renters didn't move back in. I haven't seen any new renters so it may be available. Great neighborhood w/lots of kids. I don't have specifics on owner or anything so you'll need to do some investigating.

OP, I'd love to help you out, but instead wonder about the place you're leaving! Can you tell me if you are currently giving up something similar in Arlington? We (couple, 1 kid) currently rent a tiny 2BR house in N Arlington for $1600, but would love to pay a litle extra for something bigger...

OP here, to the previous poster we are renting a 2 bedroom 1 & 1/2 bath with a family room addition for $1425/month. We are located in south Arlington between George Mason and Columbia Pike. I believe there are a handful of houses in our neighborhood for rent that have 3 bedrooms for less than $2000/month. Let me know if you want any more info.

I heartily recommend Woodside and Montgomery Hills. This is the area just inside the beltway, west of 16th st.

You can walk to the metro, to a local non-chain grocer, a diner, a CVS, a nearby park.

There are lots of families with small kids. There are affordable and mellow preschools and a great elementary school (Woodlin). My block is very warm and welcoming, after I gave birth my neighbors, some of whom I had never met, dropped off dinners for weeks.

There is a Yahoo group called Silver Spring Moms. It is a great resource.

It's a little more than you wanted to spend, but this was posted a few days ago:

Address is 729 Easley Street. House is an expanded Cape Cod, with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, good size back yard. $2295 plus utilities. The rental agent’s name and phone #: Chandler Hottel, 301-437-3850. To hear a more detailed description of the house: call 240-744-0170, ext 4.

I learned about this one today:

Downtown Silver Spring Home for Rent

Three bedroom colonial available after March 15

$2100/month

The house is within walking distance to the Metro, restaurants, stores,
schools and parks.

Three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs; dining room, kitchen and living
room on the first floor; partially finished basement which is ideal
for den, tv room or playroom for kids.

wood floors, CAC, washer/dryer, on street parking, screened in porch
off living room, fenced in yard, patio in back with terraced lawn

Call John Ogulnik @ 202-363-2950

It is zoned for Sligo Creek ES, which is an ok school, but Woodlin is better.
