given DCPS added 4 days to the school year - what if anything are the privates doing?
For example, Beauvoir is adding 30 minutes to the early Friday dismissal (so 2:30 to 3:00) from first week of april to first week of june...which comes to approx. 4 hours of makeup time. |
Sidwell turned one teacher work day into a school day, and turned one no-classes day into a regular school day. Other days had already been built into the calendar.
The independents don't have to teach to the test nor have to follow federal guidelines for minimum number of school days.
yeah, most probably won't make it up
GDS also switched an in-service day to a regular school day.
Burke switched two in-service days and a conference day to regular days. They also delayed the end of the second trimester by a couple of days, to even things out.
Primary Day extended conference early dismissal days with resource teachers taking over the classrooms.
St. Patricks has done nothing, and frankly I find it objectionable.
CHDS only missed 4 days total so are not doing any make up days.
Norwood turned one early dismissal day into a full day, that's it. A bit surprised and disappointed!
GDS parent: very upset that there is only going to be one makeup.
Beauvoir has extended the remaining Fridays into a full day as opposed to the usual early dismissal day.
I was worried that they'd pile on the home work as a substitute for make up days. Glad that hasn't happened, but on the other hand homework has basically ceased! Strange.
We are at St. Pat's, too, and I am on the fence about how I feel. I am just glad that they didn't cancel conferences as I think they are really important. However, with 2 weeks of spring break coming up our kids will have been home for 5 weeks since mid December... |
beauvoir parent here - that 30 minutes extra for 8 weeks is almost funny.
