Two days ago I had to get my fuel pump replaced in my 2019 camry due to the recall.
Ever since, every time I step into my car I smell gasoline. The smell dissipates pretty quickly. Is this concerning? Will this go away eventually? Or should I get it looked at again? |
| I would call the dealership and have them fix it. Something is wrong with a gasket or fuel line. You should not have uncombusted gas smells leaking out of your car. |
+1 No question. |
| Replaced under warranty? Take it back. Why are we having this discussion? |
| I had this after the Toyota recall, too. I demanded they tow my car in — dealer did so but after getting it checked out they said it was fine and to let it sit in the sun with the windows down. That did the trick. I’m guessing they dumped fuel on my backseat when pulling out the filter. |
| OP here. I took it back to the dealer and they said they ran a bunch of tests and there's zero issue apparently. I still have a lingering smell. I'll try what PP said about leaving it in the sun with windows down. Thanks! |
| I had my Camry fuel pump replaced and it wreaked of gasoline for a few weeks. Took it back to dealer and they said nothing is wrong. I still smell the gas inside the car and outside while the car is running. I can smell the gas even after my car has been parked for hours especially in the garage even though I left the garage open for hours after I parked it. I go into the grocery store and come back to the car a half hour later and it wreaks. Can’t believe that there is nothing wrong. |
| I had that smell with my Sienna after the fuel pump replacement, but it went away by the next day. |
| I have a 2017 Acura ILX that just had fuel pump and high pressure fuel pump injector replaced and I notice when I’m stopped like a red light or stop sign, I can smell a little bit of gas fumes in the car. But as soon as I start driving it’s fine and don’t smell it any longer. Is that normal? I just picked the car up yesterday from getting those repairs. |

Fuel burns. Vapor EXPLODES.
If you smell gas, it’s the vapor you’re smelling. Liquid gasoline has no odor at all. It’s a liquid. |
| Folks if you are smelling gas, that’s not normal. Come on now. Maybe a day or two after your repair but it shouldn’t continue. |
