Help with considerations: Syracuse vs full ride at Catholic

Anonymous
My niece is deciding between schools. She has a full ride at Catholic in DC and at St Joe’s in Philadelphia. She also just got into Syracuse with enough financial aid that it works out to about $10k/year. Is Syracuse substantially better than the others that it’s worth the $$? She is in South Jersey and her family wants her to be out of that area. The other consideration is that we live in the DMV and have a strong network that could help her with internships, especially if she were here in DC. Would love to hear how others may thing through this decision she is so fortunate to have.

Syracuse no question.

I would say Catholic

Where would she be happiest? How would she do with the weather in Syracuse?

What does your niece want to study? I actually have a great fondness for Catholic U., but the appropriateness for your niece would depend upon her course of study and whether she wants a Catholic culture in college or a secular culture. What's the best fit for her?

PS - that's great that you have a network. She could still live with you while doing summer internships even if her college is not in D.C.

Catholic. If the other option were a top tier uni maybe, but don’t pass up full ride for Syracuse. Save the money for grad school.

OP here - What do you love about Catholic? Our experience with it was my husband’s law school (which was not a good experience). But that is so far removed from college, it is t fair to let that color her decision.

Having gone to Syracuse 1986-1990, and LOVING IT (!!!) my vote would be with the Cuse!

Catholic, and I am Jewish! Syracuse is cold, gray, and in the middle of nowhere. There's not really any comparison to DC. Besides, undergrad doesn't matter as much as grad school

Depends on what she wants to study for sure but I went to school in upstate NY and you couldn’t pay me to spend four years in Syracuse. The weather is absolute crap due to the lake effect.

Syracuse. 10k a year is a small price to pay not to have to deal with parietals.
