Arlington Travel Soccer - masks required to play?

Anonymous
I ask because I saw a boys and a girls team waiting to get on the field in Bluemont. Girls - all were masked. Boys - none were masked. No parents but I did see coaches.

no, they are not required; although some players do wear them. Coaches are required.

They have to wear them walking up or hanging out outside the field.

Only required when walking to/ back the field, not during active play. My kid practice there and 99% of the girls that practice together (2 teams) wear them ALL the time. My friends who have kids on the boys team said boys generally take them off once they get to the field.

The league is split this season into masks required and masks not required teams. Parents could express a preference during sign up.

Not a soccer parent but baseball around here seems to have doubled down on mask wearing. Players don’t have to wear them on the field but they and any spectators must wear them off the field even if separated 10+ ft around the field. I’m talking about the 3 leagues in which my kids participate. I was shocked that we have more protocols now than in the summer and fall.

Soccer in some counties has gone further to require while playing.

PP here — Further since last summer and fall? Our leagues have many other protocols — this more mask wearing despite significant distancing outdoors around the field is just one example. I mean there’s the mask wearing in parking lots, etc., which is silly bcI’m at the park for something not related to baseball league, no one is wearing a mask when separated from anyone else. The adjacent soccer field is close enough that balls from either field routinely roll into the other, and they had much looser protocols (or enforcement). Not sure how they’ll do this spring.

Nothing makes logical sense.

Our club requires them for practice - which I am glad about. We recently had a player test positive. No one else did, but honestly I didn't worry about it in the least as they have all been wearing masks all year.
