Severe reflux - Pediatric GI recommendations?

Anonymous
Our 4 month old is dealing with pretty severe silent reflux. Started on famotidine, then that stopped working so we switched to Prevacid. That worked for a few weeks and now the symptoms are back again. He just started prescription Prilosec.

Feeding is a complete nightmare. It's awful seeing him in so much pain. We are worried that there's damage to his stomach and/or esophagus.

Does anyone have a pediatric gastroenterologist recommendation?

Our child was older - but we worked with Children's and Dr. Benny Kerzner. Our experience with Children's was outstanding

What are you feeding him? Breastfeeding, formula, combo? If breastfeeding, have you done an elimination diet for at least a month? My DD had severe soy protein intolerances (among others) so there were really no formula options for us at all - I had to cut out a ton of foods to continue BFing.

Formula - I had to give up breastfeeding completely when he was hospitalized earlier in the year because he was refusing to eat. For my own mental health I wasn't going to pump. Plus the stress and sleep deprivation made my supply tank, anyway. They tested for everything when he was hospitalized - no intolerances.

You cant test for intolerances. You can test for allergies.

Childrens Dr. Darbari was who we saw. We now only see an allergist so I can speak long-term care but he was informative, kind, and supportive.

Thanks for the recommendation! They tested for blood in his stool which would have indicated an intolerance. There was none.

My little one had bad reflux. Famotidine didn’t work, we wound up on lansoprazole ...we saw Dr Wolfe at pediatric associates of northern va (affiliated with Children’s Hospital)

PS, I am so sorry you’re going through this. I know how stressful this is. My little one is 8 months and came out of it around 6-7 months. Hang in there.

I am so sorry, OP. I have been where you are. It got better after 7 months

We tried children’s but were sent to a nurse practitioner who didn’t seem to have a good handle on reflux. They were not able to help DS at all.

Then we went to Georgetown and saw Dr. Serrano, who was great.
