Daycare transition for toddler

Has anyone moved daycares at the toddler age? How did it go? Our 2yo DS has been at an in-home daycare but we are thinking of moving him to the center that our older child attended. Our older child had gone straight from a nanny share to the center, but was older and understood what was happening. I don't think 2yo will really understand, plus in Covid-times I could not go in, it's a door dropoff. We had a great experience with our older child and had always intended to move the younger one too. It's just earlier than we intended, but the spot is available now and if we pass we risk not getting one later on. I'm feeling overly anxious about the transition.

My kid moved from a family daycare to a center to join his big brother at 15 months (yay for 1 set if drop offs and pick ups) and then again a year later when we moved. Both times, there was a transition period, and then he adjusted.

All ages have their challenges, it’s just different. In some ways I think dropping at the door will be easier - I know that when we moved DC at 2 she was very clingy when we got to the classroom, which then made me feel guilty and emotional trying to leave. Not having a prolonged goodbye removes you from the situation quicker.
