Mercedes GLE or Audi Q7?

I’m currently driving an old MDX and am looking for a new mid-size 3-row luxury SUV. Which one is a smoother ride and more reliable? I need to test drive both but have been putting off bc of covid. Thanks for any input.

Not sure about the Q7, not a fan of Audi. The GLE is a good choice for smooth ride. Reliability should be similar between all major brands.

One consideration is that the GLE was redesigned for 2019 so it's still fairly new. The Q7 was released in 2015, so it's fairly long in the tooth.

What's your plan for keeping this vehicle -- is the plan to keep it for ~8 or so years, or are you going to keep it for only a handful of years?

I ask because annual repair costs aren't too bad with these models early on, but after a few years the big repair bills will start hitting.

If you're going to keep it long-term, get that extended warranty.

Mercedes is a luxury car, Audi is a VW.

And neither is as reliable as a 12 year old Toyota Highlander

Q7 got a major refresh in 19 or 20. I agree the GLE looks a little bit more modern but I personally prefer the classic look of the Q7. Q7 is also bigger. Best advice to OP is to drive both. They're going to feel different.

All of the above are true.

I bought the 2020 version in 2019. It’s 10x better than the previous model. Reviews are much higher now. But it doesn’t have a usable 3rd row. The back seat of the 2-rowbis big, but the car with 3 rows is the same size as the 2-row just a seat squeezed in. Also you don’t get a real spare because the 3rd row sits in the trunk.
