FET

Is day 4 bloodwork/ultrasound done at the start of a FET cycle? Or after consult will I be immediately put on birth control regardless of where I am in my cycle?

Context: I have two kids (1 IUI, 1 Fresh transfer) and we are going to do a FET hopefully to have a third. We are consulting with our RE in a month but I’m having difficulty getting this answer. We last saw the doc in 2019.

No birth control pill. The pill is for stim purpose and in FET your eggs are not in play, your uterus is.

You will take Estrace for the first half and progesterone since your ovulation to thicken the uterus lining. There will be an ultrasound and blood work to see lining is ready for transfer, should be around mid cycle not day 4.

I’m an idiot - that makes so much sense. Thank you for the reply!

They put me on birth control prior to FET cycle. No need for day 4 labwork though. Basically I was on birth control for 3 weeks (maybe a few days longer as there was some delay) and then I stopped. When I started bleeding that was day 1 of FET cycle and the. The cycle went from there. I did a natural cycle. I can recall if starting BC was timed with my cycle or not.

Should say *can‘t* recall.
Also never did BC before a stim cycle Just with FET

I was put on birth control for my FET cycles. BC for 10 days usually, then an ultrasound to check that everything is clear (no cysts, etc.) before starting the estrogen and POI shots. Then a few days before the FET you go back in again for an ultrasound to check your lining thickness.

This was my experience with 2 FETs at SG. The birth control was for scheduling purposes only and had no impact on the actual cycle itself. For my 3rd FET, I asked to skip the BC part because estrogen was causing migraines, and I didn’t want an additional few weeks of dealing with that on top of the estrace I knew I’d have to use. I got some pushback, because it made scheduling a little more of a challenge for them (I’m PCOS, so irregular cycles), but they allowed it.
