Elrich is eliminating 29 law enforcement positions and reallocating funds to mental health.

It will be interesting to see where this goes. I bet MoCo’s conservative minority is going nuts.

We have lots of mental health in the county. We can always use more but that is not the right way to go about it.

The article says most of the positions are vacant, the police are getting 1.7 million increase in funding, and the mental health positions are funded with money from the federal government for the pandemic. So none of these things appear to be connected. It is poor journalism.

The budget increase is for compensation. He’s cutting services so he can give the remaining cops a raise.
