My girlfriend is coming to town with her mother to look for her wedding dress in a few weeks. However, she's not looking for a traditional wedding dress. She is looking for a dressy, cotton summer dress that will be worn in Maui for her wedding in about 10 weeks. So, we need something she can buy off the rack and is looking to spend $500 or less.
I would love any recommendations for boutiques or stores that might carry dress like this. I love in Alexandria, so NOVA and DC would be the most convenient. TIA |
| I would try David's Bridal (look in Bridesmaid section for an informal white dress) or White House Black Market, both around Alexandria. Online, look at JCrew. |

Brooks Brothers
Ann Taylor Talbots etc. All can be found in local mall. |
| A friend of mine got her nontraditional wedding dress at BCBG. |

I second BCBG and JCrew bridal online. Also just try Saks, Bloomingdales and Neimans. Milly, for example, might have some cute dresses but they are pricey (close to $500).
In Georgetown, you have Wink, Barney's CoOp, Urban Chic, and more. I would make the trip to Gtown. |

I would check nicole miller's cocktail dresses not the bridal line (online and in georgetown), check out this one (though it's silk, not cotton):

Is she looking for just white or a colored gown?
I echo PPs and check jcrew, the georgetown store has most of the wedding line in stock. If she is looking for non-white, this is a great dress my mom is wearing to my beach wedding, Lilly Pulitzer also has some white dresses in the spring line http://www.lillypulitzer.com/Dresses/Mila-Dress-Printed-As-Seen-in-the-Neiman-Marcus-Fashion-Book/invt/73151?temp=imageware&layout=flashpopup |
I recommend G'town also. In addition to the stores mentioned above, Georgetown Park mall has some upscale boutiques. |
| Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I'm looking forward to shopping with her! |

The dress is for the bride right? I got married on Mauii, and thought at first I wanted a very simple cotton dress. But my husband actually said he wanted to wear a tux and wanted me to be a bit "more dressed up" (this is the first and last time in our life that he has ever requested that we dress up, so I took him at his word).
I ended up going to a formal shop in Tyson's corners on a fluke (I don't remember the name, but it was near Macy's). They had some nice simple formal-but-not-too-fancy gowns. I found one that was perfect - formal but super simple. And then just went barefood and got one of those flower things to wear in my hair. |
That sounds beautiful! The dress is for the bride. Her and the groom have been married once before and she had a big traditional wedding the first time. This time they are semi-eloping (only a few people going - my DH and I and maybe 2 of his sisters). She is looking for something similar to these: http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-bc033.html http://www.juliusbridal.com/product.asp?DressName=Cotton1 She lives in San Diego and will be in DC for work the week of Easter, so she is staying with us for the weekend and flying her mom up to join us. She thought it would be nice to have a girl's weekend shopping and include her mom in picking out her dress since her mom isn't going to make it to the wedding. To the pp who mentioned buying the dress in Hawaii - while that is a good idea (and one I hadn't thought of) I think she would prefer to have the dress ahead of time so we can spend more time on exploring Maui. Thanks again for all of the excellent recommendations. |

What size is she? I wore a size 8 (size small 6 off-the rack) for my wedding. I'd be happy to provide, if the bride is interested... She's only have to do cleaning!
Silk chiffon, flowy, straps, modern "raindrops" crystal beaded top, a-line. Don't know how to post a picture, but feel free to contact me if interested, and will send photos. |
