T-ball vs. adult pitch for 5yo

Anonymous
5yo DS has expressed interest in playing baseball. He’s never played in an organized setting but we pitch to him for fun and he is getting better at hitting so wonder if we should skip tball and go straight to adult pitch? Just don’t want him to get frustrated.

Also it seems like regardless of what we choose we’ve already missed the boat for spring- ugh! We are in MoCo and little league is full. Can’t really tell what is going on with county rec, if anything. Any other suggestions of options with openings, or do we just need to wait until summer/fall?

For a kid that has never played before, I’d do tball this year. He will build confidence and have a lot of fun. Then coach pitch next year. That is the normal schedule in my kids’ rec league and was fine. Both tball and coach pitch are non competitive and cute/fun to watch. In our league, kids can and do strike out during coach pitch (your league may be different) which can be a bummer for such a little one and sometimes brings tears etc. Also the experience somewhat depends on the quality of the volunteer dad pitching (some are better than others LOL). I’d do tball for that reason- to make sure he has a really fun, positive experience for his first “baseball” season.

t-ball. I'd keep him with other kids his age.
