Ankle swell due to synovial fluid from knee arthritis

I've had this mild ankle swelling for 5 years from knee arthritis. The knee and ankle aren't at all painful but the slight swelling around thd ankle bone is ugly..Kankles.

What can I do to get rid of it? Orthopedic dr says it's just from the knee, deal with it.

Also, how does one wear orthotics in shoes? My feet just keep popping out of the shoes.

Would compression socks work?

I have orthotics in my Nikes...you have to take the existing insole out and wear thinner socks. Also, for the swelling, make sure to stretch and do knee exercises.

I do, but maybe there is something else to remove this lump. Dr says it will just keep returning. Maybe it's a whole different injury.
Alas, my fashion days are behind me.
