I’m a teacher debating a move between districts. APS current pay scale appears better in the beginning years but ACPS a little stronger in later years. However I’m using the pay scales provided on both websites for 2020-2021. Having a hard time finding solid info on what salaries will look like next year for both districts. Can anyone point me to the data for both districts on teacher salaries for 2021-2022? Also any info on benefit increase cost? |
Please go to ACPS. I’m sure you’ll love it there. |
Arlington has proposed a 2% COLA
Looks like Alexandria is getting 1% to offset premium increases. https://alexandria.ic-board.com/attachments/0c092cf0-e879-40cd-9e3b-fe3ba473d385.pdf |
I just looked up the benefits in ACPS, they are quite a bit less expensive than APS. I did not check retirement |
My understanding is that is a 1% bonus paid one time for Alexandria. |
Yes this is true for the current school year. However Alexandria is doing a 1% bonus to offset their increase in premiums. Would love to see what the numbers actually are. |
Ok. 1% is 1% |
APS will raise theirs too. Right now the Kaiser option is $200 more per period in APS. Now I’m thinking of switching too! |
Don't do it. ACPS is a hot mess. Why do you think so many people leave ACPS for APS? No one ever comes back. |
What district are you coming from and how many years experience? The annoying thing about not getting Step increases is that the only way to make it up is to move between districts. I haven’t understood Arlingtons pay scale
Though because they say the steps don’t equate to years of service so what do they equate to? |
I’m A Scale in APS and can’t figure out their formula. I didn’t push too much because I came in higher than expected. |
Say I have 13 years of experience - what step would
I go in at for Arlington? I may need too be Over!! I looked at DCPS last year and it was a jump( but less Than I thought because they stop counting experience After 10 years.) |
I know multiple teachers that have bounced around between ACPS, APS, and FCPS depending on what promotions/pay they get. It's not a one way street out of ACPS. |
Same. I know several people who left APS for ACPS. I'm sure they both have their issues, some similar, some unique. |
Note to ACPS HR. No one is going to come racing over to ACPS because of your post here. Teachers know what's what. |
