Can we talk about Karl Racine?

Anonymous
I searched threads but didn't find any newer threads with much detail
I don't know that much about him but it appears he's doing an amazing job representing the people against big corporate. For example, I live in Ward 7 and he has sued multiple gas stations/convenience stores for price gouging type offenses. Also he's on Trump. It seems like he cares about "the little guy ." On a different thread I saw someone saying he would never vote for him. I'm hoping someone with a little more political acumen than me could sum him up. Pros and cons or what drives Racine.

He seems like a genuine public servant.

He’s very politically ambitious. Keep an eye on who Norton recommended to Biden to be US Attorney for DC.

If Racine wanted to, he could run and primary Bowser in 2022.

There were many who thought he should have in 2018 but didn't because he was waiting to see what happened in the 2020 presidential election (in other words, that the Dem winner would select him for a high-profile DOJ role or even AG).

Now that that didn't happen, I wonder what his next move is. While Bowser should be pretty vulnerable and is probably a corruption probe waiting to happen, there is a wide swath of the city that thinks things have moved too far left (witness Ed Lazere's massive loss in the citywide council race despite his massive fundraising edge).

I'm not sure the policies are too far left - many of these things are widely supported around the city (nation, actually). Sometimes it's the person. A policy wonk isn't always the most charismatic / motivating figure.

If he gets named US Attorney for DC it gets him back on the DOJ track. One of the things going against him for a position like AG was that he had never been at DOJ before. USAO DC is an influential office, that could set him on a more clear path to being AG at some point in the future. If that doesn’t work out, he probably does primary Bowser in 2022.

Thanks guys- I'd love to see him as Mayor and possibly take on DCPS/central office in a thoughtful and strategic way.

Racine spent the majority of his time as AG suing Trump and furthering his own agenda at the expense of DC residents.

He's perfect for DC.

Ew, no. Look how corrupt his protege Janeese Lewis George is. She was endorsed by WTU and now she's paying favors back by proposing legislation that would 1) move DCPS under SBOE, which would favor WTU and 2) allow WTU members to serve as SBOE reps. If George had it her way, then she would keep schools closed. Don't forget that George and Robert White supported WTU's efforts to keep schools closed in August 2020, November 2020 (for the most vulnerable students!), and February, 2021. She's so full of crap when she says her proposed legislation would help children with disabilities and children of color. WTU went on strike to protest these vulnerable groups of students returning to school in November.

Racine is just another corrupt striver. Mark my words, he'll go for the WTU endorsement too.

Lent his campaign $400K and spent most of his time suing Trump and raising his national image.

Bowser would wipe the floor with him.

That is quite a stretch, gumbo. You look around at all the "education reform" corruption and think it's the WTU that's the problem? Those shondas were pushing useless PARCC tests that aren't benefitting our kids. The only way SBOE benefits the WTU is by giving the boot to mayoral control, which has been terrible on good teachers. Morale is in the pits despite high pay. It's time to lean more heavily on democracy.

This is why he didn’t primary her in 2018. Say what you will but he is savvy. He’s playing both angles as best he can, trying to appear as thoughh he is the champion of those without a voice, while also trying to demonstrate that he can be a player on the national stage. He’s a good politician.

What part of what I said do you claim isn't true?

The conspiracy theories about corruption with the WTU. It didn't even stand up to basic logic.
