Last year almost all types of fishing were banned in Maryland- and DCUM largely supported it, because they said “it was too risky during a pandemic” (but the same people also said it was fine to go for a walk in the exact same place people fish, so I don’t see how that works, can someone explain that?).
Will fishing be allowed this year? And will it be socially acceptable this time? |
|
Yes it will be allowed.
Boats will also be allowed because we have room in hospitals for all the accidents. |
Explain? Are there normally lots of boat accident victims in hospitals? Not a boater, but I also wasn’t aware there were so many. Like, more than car crashes? |

Maryland boating accident stats are going up every year. In 2017, the U.S. recorded 4,291 boating accidents involving 658 deaths, 2,629 injuries and approximately $46 million of damage to property, according to the Coast Guard. The fatality rate was 5.5 deaths per 100,000 registered recreational vessels. And while that was down slightly nationwide from the previous year, Maryland’s fatality rate appears to be going in the wrong direction. In 2018, Maryland recorded 132 boating accidents that produced 16 fatalities, a 167 percent increase over 2017, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police. I was curious so googled: had no idea there were lawyers in Maryland who specialized in buis, or boating under the influence. |
| Um, come on down to southern md. We have been fishing and boating all year 🤫 |
| Fishing was closed for about six weeks, and then reopened as a safe, socially distant option. It will definitely be open again this year. |
Yeah, not sure why people think it's been closed all year. It hasn't. |
Fishing was absolutely allowed for most of last spring and the entirety of last summer. If you didn't fish or boat last summer, that's on you. |
| Fish are not really a known covid vector. I’ve continued to eat fish since March. |
Holy cow. It’s like boating is more dangerous than covid if you are under 80?! No, seriously. |
+1. Fishing and boating were allowed. |
