Afterschool at Woodacres- No aftercare, what do parents do?

Anonymous
We just bought a house in wood acres district, and found out there is no aftercare program. What do parents do between 3-6 PM??????? Are there ad-hoc programs I should know about or is everyone at home or with a nanny?

Call the school principal and find out if there are any programs that pick up at the school. I believe that in addition to the aftercare that the school offers, there are three programs that pick up at our school.

Good advice. After I totally rearranged my life around the bus schedule I found that the bus will actually drop kids off at a neighborhood daycare-- but the only way to find that out apparently is from neighbors.

I believe wood acres does have some sort of after school program. If i am remembering it correctly, its called clubhouse, or something like that. You should call the school and see what they can tell you.

13:14 here again. I just thought of one more thing. When you are looking into aftercare, don't forget that you also need care for days off from school and half days. There are tons of them throughout the school year. If you find onsite care, it is often based on the school calendar which means you will be on your own for all of those early dismissals, breaks and days off. If you find a center that picks up, they likely will be open on school days off and will do pick up on early dismissals.

Is Woodacres in the Whitman cluster? If so, there is an afternoon bus from all the elementary schools in that cluster to this childcare center over by Whitman HS.

Apparently you have to find your own transportation there in the a.m. if you need morning care too.

Woodacres DEFINITELY has after care. its called clubhouse and it is FANTASTIC. they are even open when the school is closed. call the school for info.

there is also a bus that takes afterschool kids from woodacres to westmoreland children's center, which I think is much better than clubhouse.

To add to the PP: the bus takes kids from Wood Acres to the WCC aftercare program at Westbrook.
