There are wires across our backyard to a neighbor's house and the droop so low to our yard, I'm worried the kids will grab them. Who do I call? Does Arlington have a wire cop? Is there some inspector who knows what's a power wire and what's a dead wire and what's a live wire and what's an current phone wire? I asked neighbors to take care of it a few times and they said they'd look into it but are haven't. |
I'd call dominion |
The high voltage lines are never low - they are at the very top of the poles. You are probably looking at verizon/comcast etc lines. We have low ones in our backyard too, and the cable companies dgaf. If your kids can actually grab them, you can start by calling the county or go on the county website to get the contact numbers for the utility companies. Don't expect a great response. |
If you get frustrated by the phone company, I suggest you reach out to your state/local elected officials. They're "constituent services' office can often help out in situations like this. |
An electrician can tie them higher to the house or pole. Ours fell low after a storm and that’s who we used. |
We also have a low hanging wire, and this is our experience as well. Called Comcast out, they said it was Verizon’s. Called Verizon out, they said it was Comcast’s. ![]() |
Sounds like it’s time to cut it down then. |
If just get up there and cut it down. They’ll figure out who owns it then. |
We did that. We use RCN/power and knew which those were, so we just cut the other two wires on our house side and called 311 to report a wire on the street. Everything got fixed in 5 hours flat;. |
