First baby was born recently from IVF/FET via unplanned C-section.
Given how much hurdles we had to jump through for our first, I fear that my C-section causes yet another strike against me if I try for baby #2. Has anyone had a successful IVF/FET live birth following C section? |
| I had a c-section with my first, another with my second a little under two years later, and am currently pregnant with my third. Each pregnancy began as a FET. Neither my RE nor my OBGYN mentioned any concerns about having a FET after a c-section. Good luck! |
| Yes. My doctor did not express any concerns. they did suggest that I go through their 3 day testing again before the FET but I didn't get the sense that the C Section was an issue in particular. (And my dear 2nd baby is now 5 months old!) |
| I’m part of an infertility support group and know quite a few women who had successful FETs after c sections. Seems fairly common to me. I know a few had REs request repeat HSGs or saline sonos just to ensure there were no structural issues, but that isn’t a big deal. |

The scar tissue from c-section usually don't cause problem. Even if it does, it could be repaired by a minimally invasive surgery.

| This is a common scenario - you will find that many IVF moms had c-sections and went on to have successful subsequent FETs. Do not worry about this. |

Hi it’s OP. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Glad to hear it wasn’t too much of an extra barrier for many of you in trying for baby #2/onwards
My first successful live birth was hard fought (had chemical, blighted ovum etc and ended up doing a kitchen sink protocol that miraculously worked so I am traumatized and very sensitive about additional potential disadvantages) |
| I had a c-section with my first (FET). When I went to try for baby #2, there was some abnormal/scar tissue that showed up during my saline sono. I had a hysteroscopy to remove the tissue and had a successful FET a month later. Good luck OP! |
| I used DE IVF for all three of my kids and had a c-section with all three. That means my second was post one c-section and my third was post two c-sections. I got pregnant with DE IVF all three times on the first try. |
| C-section IVF twins (2 embryos). When twins were age 2- single embryo FET, resulted in identical twins and another c-section. |
| Similar question- how long did your doctor suggest waiting to do another FET after a csection birth? |
We started trying again after 18 months. That was recommended by SGF and Dr. Kelly/Dr. Drassinhower. |
Sorry! After checking with my SO, it was 9 months after our first csection. It took us 6 FETs to get have success with our second set of twins. I believe my first set of twins were 20 months when the 6th time worked. All 6 FETs were elective single frozen embryo transfers. We were trying not to have twins!!! Was a big surprise. |
