| For yesterday's MLS next U14 league game, neither team had any player re-entered the game after being subbed off. I know it is the case for U15 and up, but not for U13 and U14, at least not in the last fall season. Did they just changed the rule starting this spring? I mean it is good for the starter but terrible for the subs. |
Says the parent of the subs. |
| That's how they do it in the rest of the world |
| DA used to have similar substitution rule for U13 and up, later changed to U15 and up. Maybe mls next adopted the same rule. |
| Can anyone confirm this rule change? |
|
Cannot address whether the rule changed or not, but here is the MLS Next sub rule:
https://bsbproduction.s3.amazonaws.com/portals/116/docs/mls%20next%20rules%20and%20regulations%202020-2021%20-%20final%20-%209.8.20.pdf Page 35 b. Substitutions: Substitutions are allowed at any stoppage. Games shall follow the Technical Framework provided for at the beginning of each MLS NEXT Season. The maximum limits for substitutions are: For U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-19 MLS NEXT Games there will be unlimited substitutions over three (3) moments in the game, plus half time with no re-entry after exiting the match. For U-13 MLS NEXT Games, there will be unlimited substitutions over three (3) moments per half, plus half time, with no re-entry per half. Head Injury Substitution: All substitutions relating to head injury, including whether to charge such substitution, shall be handled in compliance with the PDev Concussion Protocol. |
| So apparently they didn't enforce the sub rule last fall. |
I don’t know if it entirely terrible. It makes it less likely that the coach will substitute the sub, which should allow the sub to play without looking over his shoulder. Without the rule, we’ve seen some pretty short appearances by subs on our sons teams. |
| U14 rule changed at beginning of fall season - made same as U13. |
Thanks |
