145 NNAt

Neighbor’s kid always seems less then stellar but somehow got NNAT of 145, does bare minimum to get by and focuses more on sports etc. My kid loves school, works his butt off, does tons of extra science classes after school and I think aap would be good fit but he only got a 132. Will committee take this into effect or will slot go to someone like neighbors kid?

You neighbors kid has less obnoxious parents too. So probably will go to him.

Agree 100%.

You realize you’re talking about 1st graders, right? 132 should put your kid in pool for consideration and then all the other pieces are taken into consideration. GBRS is weighed pretty heavily.

The most important point is whether or not the teacher likes the student.

OP—listen to how you’re describing someone’s 7 year old child. It’s gross that you're using phrases like “less than stellar” and “does the bare minimum.”

I’m embarrassed for you.

Neighbor's kid is probably bored out of his mind at school and is thus completely unengaged. He needs a gifted program much more than your bright, hardworking kid, who would thrive anywhere.

They'll both be admitted, OP. As they should.

The neighbor’s kid is an all rounder! Those kids SHOULD be in AAP! Not to say yours should not, but to me, I would prefer a well rounded kid who does it all even if they had a lower score, vs. only studying. I wish the committee looked at it that way, but no clue what they look at.

Your kid is probably the kind who can become a good surgeon one day.

Neighbor’s kid is probably the kid who creates the new surgical technique to be learned by millions and will change countless lives.

Out of the box thinker.

Agree. They both sound like great kids.

Lady, neighbor kid is just smarter. Deal with it.
Yes, he will get your kid's slot. That's life.

There are not a limited number of slots.

They let in almost everyone. I wouldn't worry about it. What I would worry about is the quality of FCPS education and what next year will look like. I wouldn't be surprised if Mondays are gone forever.
