| Just bought a property in the UK. We’d like to install some security features that we can manage while here in the US. Definitely an interior camera. Any suggestions? Some items have been stolen and we suspect a family member who claims to not be entering the property. Thank you! |

Hey! How are you. We are in the same situation but opposite. House in the States and we live overseas.
I researched this extensively and ended up going in the direction that I swore that I would not, simply because of ease. I wanted to run an Ubiquiti server with POE cameras that I could have video stored locally or on the cloud for overseas access. In the end it was just too hard. How would I reset the server? How would I update the server etc. In the end, I purchased Arlo security cameras to run through the local wireless network. The video is uploaded to the cloud and stored locally. I HATE subscription plans, but this is about the only time that I feel these plans are worth it. Because I need an entirely automated system run by a third party. They update the back end and the app and I am simply an end user. I would never use this for my home system (the one that I am living in) but it works great for my remote house. Things to remember. I had to hardwire all of my cameras. The batteries only last a few months at best so I hardwired them all myself to AC power sources. Also, please ensure that whatever system you get does not have any restrictive 2FA policy that must be set up in the US first. Most of these are changing to allow them to become global, but you would be surprised. As for my Arlo system, it is fine. Not excellent, not bad, but it does the job. I really wish that I had some sort of real zoom capacity, but at the end of the day, I get a 4K recording (Ultra 2) of the areas of the property it is set up in. You cannot read a license plate (The advertisements use this a a common metric, all showing clear license plates) but you can certainly tell who is walking on your property or peering over your fence etc. Good luck. Let us know what you end up with. Ask any questions you may have. |
This is excellent advice. Many thanks! Will update this thread when we figure out what we’re going to do. |
