Dr. Shin--Urologist

My husband was referred to Dr. Shin after his last SA came back with low numbers.....has anyone dealt with him and give us any inside scoop? We have an appt with him in 2 weeks.

Dr. Shin diagnosed my DH's male factor issues and we found him to be wonderful to work with. He's about our age, I think (mid- to late-30s) and was very empathetic about our situation. My husband had a diagnostic surgery with him, plus surgery to "harvest" sperm for our IVF cycles. Dr. Shin was very professional, and my DH had a quick recovery. We were referred to him by Dr. Engel (then at Foxhall, now at R&H), and our RE at GW also knew Dr. Shin, so I appreciated that we had a team who all knew each other and respected each other. Best wishes to you.

We met with Dr. Shin a few years ago when my husband's SA came back abnormal. My GYN at the time, Dr. Busch, referred us. He put us at ease immediately and was very empathetic and seemed quite knowledgeable. He did answer a couple personal phone calls (from his wife) during our appointments which annoyed me and was impossible to reach when I called with questions. Also, he shamelessly plugged Dr. Sacks, Columbia Fertility Associates, and made a few disparaging comments about the Shady Grove Fertility Center. I am always wary of docs who make negative comments about other physicians. We ended up at SGF for IVF and found out they work with other urologists (which explained, but didn't justify his comments) so had to switch to someone else.

Good luck with everything!

My DH had a consult with Dr Shin and liked him. We were referred to him by Dr Frankfurter at GW.

Our RE, Dr DiMattina referred us to Dr. Shin and he was wonderful, we needed to harvest sperm then use IVF with ICSI, the whole process between both clinics went very smoothly and we are expecting DD soon. Good Luck

My husband had a varicocele repair by Dr. Shin which went very well and increased his SA numbers.
I am surprised about the PP's comments regarding Shady Grove as they were actually the ones who referred us to him.

My husband was referred to Dr. Shin by our Shady Grove RE. He was very professional during the consult and did not disparage SG to us. He will be performing my husband's procedure at Shady Grove and I am doing my IVF there; we did not have to change to a different urologist.

I will have more to report after my husband's procedure, but so far I think he's been a good choice
