| I'm in DC and looking for a service that can repair -- as best as possible -- an 8-inch long windshield crack on the passenger side. Repaired enough to keep it from spreading and, hopefully, get it past DC DMV vehicle inspection. It's an old car and I have high deductible insurance and so would like to avoid spending the money for a replacement windshield. Thank you. |
| Safelite |
| Do you not have comprehensive? They usually cover windshields. |
I do but it's a $2,000 deductible. |
| Safelite comes to you. Very convenient. |
Check your policy. We have a windshield exclusion - it's either $0 or $100. At any rate, safelite is less than $150 |
They use inferior glass, but if it’s an old car, who cares? |
| Safelite - ask for the AAA discount = quick service in DT bethesda |
|
Thanks for the tips. I will double-check any auto insurance coverage with my agent.

|
an 8-inch crack is not fixable.
I just paid $280 for a new windshield, installed, in Columbia. (normal car - not a huge SUV or sportscar). |
Who did you use for the repair? |
I didn't find anything inferior about the glass replaced in my car. Kept that car for several years after with zero problems. |
| In Columbia I've used Precision Auto Glass on Dobbin Rd two different times for a replacement windshield and been very happy. They've even done it while I wait (I just walked to some stores to kill time). They probably don't have mobile service |
I could go to Columbia. I park on the street so that might be easier than mobile service. -- OP |
| $280 is what I paid at the Safelite in Bethesda as well |
