| Wondering if adding one private training session a week during the spring season in addition to three team practices and games on weekends for U11 DS is too much (DS doesn't get as many touches on the ball as I think he should during practice)? Or is holding off until summer and maybe doing 1-2 session a week a better plan? Thanks |
If a 10 year old can’t handle it energy wise when would you ever expect them to? |
| I think it is fine to wait, but honestly, my U12 son does private lessons and likes them, but I am not sure that individual private lessons are helping him. He does some with a partner (practicing pushing off and winning the ball back), and those seem more useful to me. YMMV. |
A good trainer is going to work with very small groups of kids in the same age range and athleticism level. They will keep them moving the entire time. It will not be cheap. I only think private/small group training is useful if your kid is already very athletic and they want to be pushed or if your kid is taking on a new position like goalie and needs some confidence. |
| at U11, unless you're talking about keeper lessons, I think you are much better off in group lessons (or finding a team whose practice structure you like better) |
| Depends on what your goal is. At this age, think the more time he spends on the ball playing the game in a fun environment the better. |
| Just getting touches can be done by himself. Get a few cones, mini-goal, wall or rebounder to bounce the ball of of, a few soccer balls. You don't need a private coach for that. |
| If you haven't started at U4 then you're behind. DS needs to be juggling proficiently by U6. Able to kick upper 90 shots with both feet from 25 yrds out by U8. Labelled by other parents as the next Messi by U10. Playing up at U16 and getting YMNT call ups by U12. Full ride to UVA by U14 and signed by DCU on a professional contract by U16. Signed by Liverpool by U18. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time. |

A: best time was dec/jan/feb
B: wait till summer. 4 days a week of structured soccer is enough. More cab be done in his own but do you want him to burn out and start hating it? During summer he will look forward to training because the season will be over. |
Do you know what was a waste of time? Everyone reading your post. |
This is good advice. |
I actually thought it was pretty funny. DMV soccer parents don't have much of a sense of humor. Can we laugh at ourselves a bit? |
It’s funny because it’s true...🤔 |
+1. Send him to small group training. Pick a program where they have about 8-12 kids in the class. It's cheaper and IMO more fun and more useful. |
I think you're wrong on the DCU signing. That's the kiss of death - no path to Liverpool from there. Otherwise this looks about right. |
