Violating HIPA Procedures

Anonymous
If you knew an employee at a hospital was violating HIPA procedures, what would you do? What actions would the hospital take? This person needs to be stopped.

I can't say for sure what I'd do (I'd like to hope I'd report them). But I am pretty sure they'll be fired. It's a serious violation.

OP, can you be more specific about the HIPAA violations? You should probably talk to someone who can confirm that the actions are actually violations before taking further action.

What sort of violation? Can you give examples?

I work in healthcare, and HIPAA regulations get violated ALL the time.

Is there any way that you can anonymously report this person? Is there proof?

I'd say unless a patient complains and goes public, not much will be done.

There aren't really any "HIPAA police" as far as I know.

the compliance officer is the HIPAA police. you also might contact their quality department or their risk management department.

But, doesn't the compliance officer work for the hospital? And, I thought the compliance officer was more making sure that all the charts had HIPAA signatures, HIPAA info was posted prominently, etc.

Risk management might be a good option.

I'm really curious about what OP thinks the HIPAA violations are -- I find that many people are wrong about the requirements and limitations.
