No more IPL seats for term 4 - Bruce Monroe

I find it very depressing that our school has already announced they will not expand IPL classrooms for term 4. With numbers going down and vaccinations going up, am I really off base to think they should be able to expand IPL seats if the trends continue in the right direction?

I find it so disheartening to know we are at least 5 months away from being able to go back to school.

Are other schools doing this as well?

This week, we received guidance from DCPS Central Office that states “Schools should plan to maintain their reopening plans from Term 3. As such, schools will not need to submit new Term 4 plans for in-person learning.” Based on this guidance, BMPV will not open any additional IPL classrooms for Term 4.

Was there excess demand for IPL already in Term 3?

Yes absolutely! Lots of families would have accepted in person had they been offered. Apparently the dual language model makes it more difficult.. but I can attest that dual languages over a computer is not really working either.

Write your council person, the mayor, your board of Ed rep, the commissioner. Tell them that term 3 plans were based on input form before vaccines came out. Push for hybrid learning or getting kids to switch week to week. It is patently unfair that a small percentage of kids get to go back while the rest are out for 18 months. They are not doing their job, TELL them
