Closet full of flower patterned clothes

Anonymous
After a year of working from home, I took a serious look at my shirts/blouses and dresses to see what I may need to update. To my horror, I noticed that my newer clothing purchased over the past three years, contains various colors - but mostly flower patterns. I’m going to be 50 this year...anybody else have a flower-packed wardrobe?

Um no. I wear all solids. But so what - if you like flowers, wear flowers. Maybe they make you happy. You do you.

No, but it should be easy to temper that with dark solid pieces. Pants or skirt, top, jacket or sweater. Of those three pieces, just have one with a pattern.
I like colors and patterns, but I want to be the focus of attention — not my clothes. Having said that, I just ordered a wildly pattered piece — but that’s because I have mostly solid pieces in my closet.

Pre-pandemic, maybe 2018? There were a lot of pretty floral patterns out, especially floral on black, so maybe you did some shopping then. I know that I look at my pre-pandemic wardrobe now and hate everything - something in the zeitgeist I guess - the world has changed and so has what is appealing. I plan to try and do a very limited capsule wardrobe if I go back to work in person and just try to own a lot less in general.

I love floral and botanical prints.

I turned 50 last year and my wardrobe is mostly black.

That's so depressing.

I love florals, so I hear you. It has definitely been a trend.

Curious if you can detect a pattern (no pun intended) in terms of where you bought the clothes? For example, if you buy clothes from Loft, you definitely have a bunch of florals.

OP here, I mostly shop at Marshall’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, etc. But you make a good point, florals were a big trend.

OP here, great idea, thanks?

Turning 50 this year and my wardrobe is black and grey with some beige and white splashed in. I try color but always go back to neutrals.

Florals are great ... you don't have to put them away because you turned 50.

Like someone else said, just don't overdo it.

I've always worn solids and mostly neutrals. In the last two years I've bought some florals to mix in as one piece of an outfit here or there. It's refreshing.

+1. Black is a young woman's color.

Florals are always lovely in spring. Sure, you might have gone a bit overboard, OP, but, as others have noted, you can mix your floral pieces with neutral solids to tame the garden. Or ship some over to me -- I've been longing to buy a floral dress or top, but haven't found one that works for me yet (I'm 5'2", so I have to be careful about wearing the pattern, rather than having it wear me). With the crocuses blooming, I'll keep looking for the floral print of my dreams and, in the meantime, I'll be happy to wear my floral silk scarf -- vintage, courtesy of my mum. who bought it in London ca. 1971.

Have a lovely day, DCUM fashionistas . . . and enjoy the clip below from The Devil Wears Prada! (I have it on good authority from my cousin who worked at British Vogue that the following exchange actually occurred at a meeting she attended.
