That's so depressing.

+1. Black is a young woman's color.

Nope. That's ludicrous.

I'm in my 40s, but have been drawn to floral a lot in the last few years. Especially last year -- I consciously bought several floral blouses and dresses last spring because I knew they'd be a mood boost as the pandemic wore on. And it worked because I just pulled them out of the back of my closet to wear in the warming weather and they made me happy.

With florals, I think you just have to be careful about the pattern itself. Some florals scream "Florida retiree!" (not a bad thing, but may not be the look you're going for). Other's look childish, especially if they are paired with something like a short puff sleeve or smocking.

You know where you can find great florals these days? Anthropologie. They have a lot of Farm Rio for a more resort look, plus lots of their in-house brands have some great floral blouses in wonderful light fabrics. I love a really light weight blouse with longer sleeves because you can wear it comfortably from March to September, or even October/November depending on the color base (yellow travels wonderfully into fall).

Floral patterns were everywhere in 2019 and I just walked by an Ann Taylor that had nothing but florals on all the mannequins in the windows. Wear what you like.

Why is that to your horror? You clearly like floral patterns, so make them the backbone of your wardrobe. Honest to god, nothing would give me more joy right now than to see a woman who knows herself and her style wearing the clothes that make her feel happy and confident. I’m insanely picky about floral patterns so I have hardly any (I find that the affordable ones are frequently less pretty than, say, the Liberty ditsy prints referenced above). But if you had a floral shirt that mismatched perfectly with a floral blazer... wear them together.

But use them. The world does not need another woman flattening out her personal style into the same oversized sunglasses, beachy waves, skinny jeans and a blazer with the sleeves pushed up, all in neutral colors, maybe “with a pop of color” from yet another disposable necklace (and yes I know that stuff is all three trends ago, but we all know women who still wear exactly that).

Where do you get your floral patterns? I love them but almost never see them.

I'm 50 and I love floral patterns. My closet is all black, grey and florals, ha.

I don’t own florals - somehow they just aren’t me. But I have sooo many stripes and animal print. I have to physically put them back on the rack if I go shopping! However I have realized stripes/animal print/navy/red is my happy place. I’m currently super out of fashion among the cottagecore young’uns and 90’s fashion, but I figure another 10-15 years, I’ll be the stylish granny!
