We are considering a move and the area falls into Lakewood ES district.
I saw previous posts from 2008 about the screaming principal and the inexperienced school counselor. Is this still true? (Hopefully not!!) Anyone have experience with this school? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! |
I'm the OP.
Since nobody has written on the subject, I'm happy to assume that the problem with the principal has been resolved... Or maybe that just means nobody has any experience with the school? I hope it is not the latter. |
I wouldn't personally take silence as a sign of anything--who knows if anyone with kids at Lakewood saw your post? Find some current people in the neighborhood and talk to them. |
While my kids do not go to Lakewood I do live in Rockville. If you read these boards regualry you will not that they seem to be most often fregented by the Potomac/Bethesda/Chevy Chase area parents.
I wouldn't take silence as a reponse either.. |
You might want to look at the surveys available on the MCPS site--you can compare responses to other schools in the cluster or all MCPS, or to that school's history.
Here's the staff survey: http://sharedaccountability.mcpsprimetime.org/SurveyResults/index.php?l=0&sch=209&survey=2009SSE&type=Staff&comparison=0 (E.g.: 28% said they disagree or strongly disagree with the statement: "I can talk openly with the school leaders about school-related matters.") Parent survey: http://sharedaccountability.mcpsprimetime.org/SurveyResults/index.php?survey=2009SSE&l=0&type=Parent&sch=209 (E.g. 62.7% of parents agree or strongly agree that "The school leadership is responsive to the concerns of parents and the community." Much lower than the 81.2% of all MoCo parents who agree or strongly with that statement.) Student survey: http://sharedaccountability.mcpsprimetime.org/SurveyResults/index.php?survey=2009SSE&l=0&type=Student&sch=209 Students report much more teasing, bullying, drug use, alcohol than students at other schools in the cluster and MoCo as a whole. |
Thanks for your comments.
Thanks to PP --I didn't think to look at school surveys. This was very helpful. |
