Annie's promises to remove a chemical from its mac and cheese that's linked to cancer and learning d

If you are buying processed boxed Mac and Cheese by any brand but especially Annie's you might want
to read the article linked below. This is all over the news and at the very minimum quite disturbing. Few questions come to mind..

1. Why there are phthalates in ANY food, let alone food that we feed our children.
2. Why is it in the packaging of any such food if there is a known concern that it end up IN the food?
3. Why there is no warning on the packaging of any kind?
4. If the organic brand has this level of phthalate issues, what about non organic brands and foods?

Annie's promises to remove a chemical from its mac and cheese that's linked to infertility, cancer, and learning difficulties

Annie's Homegrown recently announced it is working with suppliers to eliminate a harmful chemical linked to infertility and learning difficulties from its highly popular boxed mac and cheese.

The brand, which is known for using organic ingredients, made the decision on February 21 to phase out phthalates, a chemical commonly found in plastic manufacturing parts.

"Food integrity and consumer trust are our top priorities at Annie's," the statement on Annie's website reads. "We are troubled by the recent report of phthalates found in dairy ingredients of macaroni and cheese and take this issue seriously."

Phthalates are known to impact fertility, learning disabilities, and cause birth defects

The decision comes four years after a 2017 study by the Coalition for Safer Food found the industrial chemical in 30 cheese products, including macaroni and cheese, and baby toys. The highest concentrations of phthalates were found in boxed macaroni and cheese.

Phthalates aren’t on the label of our Annie’s Shells and White Cheddar. Do they appear under a different name?

This is old news. They all promised to do it years ago. Just make your own.

They aren't on the label because they aren't added intentionally but they make their way into the food when it comes into contact with packaging or processing equipment containing phthalates (wasn't clear from the article if Annie's issue was packaging, equipment or both).

If you are that concerned why would you buy your kid prepackaged food. Why not just make some noodles and choose yourself. Pasta is just egg, flour and water add cheese, butter and heavy cream. I'm sure foods have tons of carcinogens but it's a risk you take for convenience.

You use milk, not cream for mac and cheese. Cream is for alfredo.

seriously! what a stupid argument. I buy Annie's -- is this particular to Annie's or a common issue in other food packaging as well?
