DMV appointments

I need to renew my license and because it’s not a REAL ID, I need to do it in person. This requires an appointment. There are none. Are they all taken or are they just not actually offering appointments? I’ve been checking nonstop for about a month. This is absurd.

I'm in the same boat. I believe this has been frozen for over a year? They could certainly do outdoor, walk up kiosks.

Keep looking at different locations. I was able to get an appointment at the DMV in Lorton within a month.

Pardon my ignorance...is Lorton DC?

I assumed OP was talking about DC, but maybe not!

Sorry. I assumed VA. Lorton is VA

If you mean DC try Today at 3pm. I've heard they release new slots on Tuesdays at 3. Also, check every location and different timeframes. It's a pain because you have to make your selections each time you search under different locations/days.

Also, have you tried calling 311 to schedule an appointment? Worth a try.

I have been trying for months to get an appointment because of a move. It is infuriating.

OP here—yes, meant DC. I’ll try at 3pm. This is so absurd.

Since COVID, we have gotten two Real ID's an learners permit, a provisional license and a full license (different kid upgrading from provisional) - the DMV is operating. You just have to keep trying for slots.

I’m moving to DC. I know I will have to make a DMV appointment for a license, but do I need to make a separate appointment first for a knowledge test? Or is the knowledge test only for 16-20 year olds? If I need to take the knowledge test, can I take the knowledge test at the same time as my New Resident appointment for a license? I have a valid license from another state, if that helps.

No test if you have an unexpired license from another state.

Thanks

DC releases slots between 2:30 and 3:00 on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays for a one week window. They have been doing this for months. It is a pretty smooth process.

I was in the same situation in September and the first appointment I could get was 6 months out. When you look at the calendar, look for dates 6 months out. Under the DC pandemic rules, your license is still good until the "emergency" is over, so just get something the calendar for next September/October and wait. It's also possible that they'll open up the DMV to walk ins before then.
