| Our daughter has expressed an interest in playing soccer. She’s 9 YO and sporty. She has never played other than kicking ball around with her younger brother. We live in Bethesda and are looking to put her in a program in surrounding area where she can learn the sport and have fun. Recommendations? |
| Msi |
| Ppa also has a rec section |
| The answer has been the same for decades- MSI dominates rec in Bethesda |
| Try lacrosse |
Why? |
Because that is the sport that athletic kids not skilled enough to play soccer drop into. I think they were being a jerk. If she wants to play soccer then let her play. |
Uggg. Go with soccer. |
| Why not both? |
| A recreational program is your first stop. MSI for sure. |
| MSI Recreation is your best option. It’s pretty cheap and you can just sign up for one season. |
| Thank you all. I went on the MSI website and wondering if I should sign her up for recreational or classic? I’d like for her to learn skills. |
| Classic is travel light. I'd still giver her a season of rec to see if she even likes soccer first |
Also by 9 you've got girls who've been playing for 4/5 years, some of whom are quite good. The rec league is best for beginners. |
Classic is a little more serious than Rec. If your daughter is mentally mature for her age, then I recommend Classic (select soccer). On some Rec Teams at this age, you will see some girls daydreaming or picking flowers during a game. At 9 YO, all players are beginners so don’t worry. |
