| 30 weeks pregnant and want to try the noodle feta cherry tomato trend that’s out there. Safe? |
| Yes as long as it’s pasteurized. |
| Yup. My dr said 99.9% of cheese is pasteurized in the US. I eat feta & goat cheese with no issues. |
| Sounds delicious! Most feta is pasteurized, especially if you buy it at a major grocery store. The only exception is if you buy it from a farmer’s market, farm stand or in-house at a restaurant I would double-check with the maker or chef. |
| Same risk (or less) as eating the same feta uncooked |
|
Totally fine. If you happen to have found unpasteurized feta (which you would REALLY have to be looking for...like bought it from a speciality market or something) cooking it at 375 for 30 minutes would kill anything harmful
Enjoy the pasta! Add a little red onion with the tomatoes. They get jammy and delicious 😉 |
| Cooked and uncooked feta is totally fine. I know the recipe you are talking about OP. It looks delicious. Please do update us with how it went! |
| It's funny that soft cheeses have such a stigma surrounding them. Pretty much every feta and brie cheese I came across while pregnant was pasteurized, it was the cheddar cheeses that were always the problem! |

Here's a link to the actual number of Listeria outbreaks in the US. You're in much greater danger of lightning strike, car accident, falls, any number of things than Listeria. https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/outbreaks/index.html |
| It's pasteurized in the US..... so is goat cheese and other soft cheeses. This is why I wish they'd stop telling pregnant women to avoid soft cheese. |
| My OB said hard cheeses are fine, even if unpasteurized. Listeria can’t stick to their surface. However, she urged caution with all soft cheeses, even pasteurized Bc they can still become contaminated and are the perfect breeding ground for listeria. I still ate pasteurized soft cheese but only from places where I knew the storage conditions were great. I did eat cooked soft cheeses without hesitation though. |
