Dog had 11 puppies. ELEVEN

Fostering a pregnant dog. She was pretty big, but she's a smallish dog. I hoped for 5, maybe 7, know 9 was possible.... but 11? LOL my house is going to look like an episode of "Hoarders".

So anyone have any tips or tricks with puppies? Sure the rescue told me what to do. Baby pool for whelping will contain them for now. Tarps on the floor over which I'll put puppy pads. But any advice?

Youtube or TikTok - look for puppy breeder accounts. I hope you find good and loving homes for all of them.

Newspapers. Ask neighbors for them. This was easier when we had the Gazette and all the free ones that people didn't read.

Make sure they are all getting enough milk, watch for mastitis in the mother. She is going to need a lot more food - get her a supplement at the pet store to help her with the extra calories she is going to need (if not provided by the rescue). Swab Betadine on the umbilicus. Make sure she has passed all the afterbirth so you don't have an infection to deal with.

With 11 pups, really watch to make sure she doesn't accidentally lay on any of them and kill them, same with littermates. Identify and check on the runt - there is one in every litter that needs help in the first 2 weeks. Other than visual checks and puppy count, leave mamma alone to rest and take care of her babies and enjoy every minute of this, 8 weeks goes fast!

What kind of puppies? That’s going to be a handful! You are nice to be fostering.

The smell of your house will be fantastic. Also, this is what the WaPo was made for!

Wow, congratulations, OP! What breed(s)?

Make sure the vet knows. Perhaps you can phone him or her for tips.

Can you please post pics and updates regularly, or direct us to the rescue page if they will be posted there? I need a little puppy love in my life

Identify in advance where you can find puppy formula and tubes in case any need to be tube fed.

Weigh them each daily to monitor if any lose too much weight. They may not be getting enough from the mama and will need formula.

Watch mama. We just got a puppy but, they told us the mother killed one of the puppies by biting her head. The baby couldn't be saved so they separated the puppies from the mama and had to bring them to her when they wanted to be fed.

Yes call your local paper and see if they’ll do a story about it for exposure. That will help you line up homes.

I'm staunchly on the left and I agree. The level of writing and quality of reporting is often ridiculously bad.
