Moving to DC next year with a 3 year old and need advice

Anonymous
hi everyone,

I'm moving to DC next year - Summer 2022- and need advice about where to send my then-3 year old - I kow DC has free pre-k 3 but it is a lottery? I won't be eligible becuase we have just moved there? I will be eligible the next year? Should I move IB to a good public school? What are these? I've heard of Oyster Adams but that is all. Any help (tips, websites where I can figure this out) is useful! TIA

You need to report this post to ask Jeff to move it to DC schools. But also search there. This exact question gets asked often.

DCPS has a lottery.
It is required for all PK3. It is required for PK4 if you are not already enrolled in PK3 or you want to switch schools.
It is required for K and above ONLY if you don’t want to go to your inboundry school.
Moving IB for PK3 could help but only for some schools. It’s very competitive.
The lottery closes around March 1 and you’ll need to enroll with a DC address by April or May. You can do a post lottery application if you move after that but your choices will be much more limited.
