Question about waitlist movement

Anonymous
Hi..we are number 5 on a waitlist for 1st grade. Should we call the school and express interest or do they call you when a spot opens up. It says on the OBB list that they have zero spots avaiable but I assume there may be some movement since its only March and families that want to leave may not know for sure yet. So what is the protocall? Do I call or just wait until they call me. I know quite a few people that told me that they were not even on the waitlist at schools (much desired schools with waitlist) and they got in by talking to the principal. I'm not into butt kissing and frankly think its terrible when people do that and push other who actually are at the top of the list out of running! Someone please tell me what to do at this point? My child is in a under performing school which I hate!!!!

Talk to the principal. It can't hurt.

so what do you SAY to the principal when you call? "HI what will it take to get my kid in?" it all just seems ridiculous, but I guess I would do it if that's what it takes. Seriously, what do you say?

I read somewhere that after the lottery, the waitlist is up to the school principal to manage. Does s/he go absolutely by the numbers and just go down the list to offer slots?
