If you were 50+ pounds overweight, when did people start noticing your weight loss?

How many pounds overweight where you, and how many pounds did you lose before people started noticing?
I started 50lbs overweight, am done 10lbs and no one has commented on it.

I had close to 60lbs to lose. 15-20 before the "you look like you lost weight" comments began.

My DH noticed at about 8 -10 pounds down, but I was also wearing a dark, more slim fitting t-shirt and no sweatshirt that day whereas every other day for a year I've worn a variety of older t-shirts and usually a sweatshirt.

PP here -- but my husband was also very hesitant to say anything because he didn't want to somehow say the wrong thing. So that may be the case for your family/friends, too.

Even though I am losing weight (slowly), it is not something I discuss with many people. So, in that vein, when I noticed that a friend lost a bit, I did not comment on it because she had not discussed it with me, and I also know that she is experiencing magnified anxiety these past months - so I don't know how she experiences her weight loss.

I have a friend who was told to lose 25 lbs so she was probably 50 lbs overweight. I need to lose 10, and I’m still in a normal BMI. Anyway, she lost 15 and it was noticeable, but what could I say without coming off as rude?

Probably 8-10 lbs. Usually about a month of consistent work outs. i also like to take progress pictures to compare side by side.

I never got any comments until I had lost 20. And then it was my face that people noticed!

PP here - or maybe the face comment was the most polite way people thought they could say anything! haha

Look up the paper towel effect. The bigger hour are, the less noticeable the weight loss is.

I was 35 pounds overweight and lost 5 pounds before people noticed. However, I also was lifting weights and gained maybe 3 pounds of muscle so was down about 8 pounds of fat.

I lost 35 in the last 6 months. However, I am working at home and the only person I see regularly is DH. He hasn't said anything.

I tend to look heavier than I am (especially at lower weights), so maybe it is not very noticeable - it's not as if I am making regular pronouncements about my weight.

Thanks, I think all we fatties are aware of that.

I think depends on the height. My SIL is almost 6 ft tall and it became noticeable at 25 lbs. But she can also gain 10 lbs and you can't even tell.
