What courses are included in a major GPA?

I see definitions online but they're not clear to me. For example: "Includes only the coursework required in your academic major (just those courses taken
within a specific major).'

So, for, say, a business school marketing major, the major GPA would include marketing classes, but not non-business required classes such as foreign language. But, they're still required which confuses me. Then there are the associated business-related courses, such as statistics, that are not marketing but are close to marketing.
