A Kenmore Art Teacher posted in the Arlington Neighbors Helping Each Other Facebook group looking to hire his own classroom monitor!?!?
Is that really allowed? Are other teachers also hiring people to watch their class? Employment Opportunity: Hello Arlington Community, I’m looking for someone who can be a monitor in my classroom, starting on March 9th through mid June, Tuesday through Thursday. I will be continuing to teach virtually, so all you have to do is monitor a small group of children (12 or less) with masks on, while they work on their art projects. I will be doing everything from taking roll, to instruction, to grading. I just need an adult to be present in the room. You would be paid the going rate of about $120/day. Please contact me for more details: |
This is the same guy who did the desk drive at the start of the school year. |
I assume he is looking for people to apply through the county which would be allowed. I did something similar when we were looking for an assistant in my class a few years ago. They still did the usual background checks and application. |
He cannot hire someone himself to do this. Even if he can find candidates, they will have to be screened and vetted by APS. My guess is that he's been told that he doesn't qualify for an ADA accommodation and that the school hasn't been able to hire enough aides to cover his classes so he can work virtually. Hopefully he at least got APS's approval to try to recruit his own applicants. |
So Arlington is just letting teachers opt to stay home as long as they can hire enough babysitters? |
well.. Hybrid is really just babysitting in the building while on the iPad for virtual school and an hour lunch break/recess. |
One of the “open schools” now people already left a passive-aggressive comment. |
Don't worry, one of the other "open schools now" people also passive aggressively liked the comment. |
what's interesting to me is that he appears to be getting a lot of interest in the position. I thought APS and FCPS were not able to hire sufficient monitors.... |
APS has been using extended day staff as monitors so there’s been very little hiring this year. I’m curious about the arrangement posted. |
Interest is not the same thing as willingness to do the job. APS isn't going to cobble together a bunch of volunteers like one person suggested, they're only going to hire an aide who is willing to commit to specific days and hours. In this case, it likely means committing to four days a week from about 7 am to 3 pm. Once people understand that, a lot of that interest will probably dry up. |
What did they say? |
😂 it took down the post. Maybe he realized that central office staff are also in that group. |
