APS - Air Purifiers

Anonymous
Does anyone know whether air purifiers will be used in school rooms other than classrooms? Our elementary school is planning to use the gym for PE, as well as the cafeteria for lunch for some classes (including my son's class). I saw on AEM that APS has enough purifiers for every classroom. But what about these other rooms, especially given the lack of masks (cafeteria) and potential strenuous exercise (gym)?

At our APS ES they only mentioned having an air purifier in "every classroom".

Our APS ES school they said in every room, not just classrooms.

No, they won't. APS also did not perform the indoor air quality measurements on those larger spaces, at least not yet because they were focusing on the classrooms. So we don't know how good or bad the ventilation is and many gyms and maybe cafeterias don't have windows that open.

NP Our north Arlington elem said gym and cafeteria would have them. Not sure about measurement.

If you are worried about ventilation, then you should stay virtual.

I am sure all of the schools open across the country have air purifiers in all rooms. Good question OP!

I’m a teacher teaching in person, am I allowed to worry about the ventilation in my room given the students will be breathing in there all day? Some of you are so damn rude. This is a really reasonable question given multiple clean air returns an hour is the biggest way to combat spread of airborne contaminants in a closed environment.

This is like covid 101. Proper ventilation decreases transmission.

People don’t seem to realize how many classrooms don’t even have windows. A functioning air filter is critical. I hate how every question about reasonable safety measures turns into “JUST STAY HOME”

Do you realize every time you and others say this, it’s the equivalent of “sit down and shut up”? The irony is that those of us fighting for safer protocols in schools are making it safer for the kids of the parents telling us to sit down and shut up.

Just sit down and shut up. No one cares.

Of course it does, but you’ll be sitting in the room for hours. Either you get it or you won’t. It doesn’t take long. Wear your mask and don’t worry about the air.
