where do the car seats go?

Anonymous
I have a mini-van and am expecting my second child. My first car seat is on the passenger side in the middle row. Do folks put the new baby's seat in the middle next to the older child so mama can sit in the back and feed the newborn a bottle or whatever or do folks put the newborn on the opposite side and then mama just sits in the middle (how would you climb over the car seat??!?!) or do you put the older child in the back row and the newborn in the middle row? Older child will be less than two when baby is born. Any advice?

I worked as a nanny and the best arrangement was to have one in each side with space for an adult in the middle no matter how old the children were.

We put both of our kids in the middle row.

For us we're putting our toddler behind the drivers seat and the newborn behind the passenger seat. This will allow whomever is driving to be able to look back on the baby to make sure all is okay. We're also leaving space between the two so that someone can sit there if need be to tend to either child.

I would put both in the middle row with some space inbetween. Our son was just 19 months when twin sibs arrived. We did 3 in a row for a short time. We moved him to the back afetr a few months and he did fine though if you have to do that for long trips.

How do you get to the middle if the two seats are on both sides and does that mean you lose access to the back row since you can't exactly lift the outter seats up to get to the back if there is a car seat there. Stupid question but I need to know....
