dog boarding

Can anyone recommend a good place to board dogs, like when you're away on vacation? And particularly someplace a little more humane than a kennel?

Old Town Pet Resort in Springfield. It's unbelievable.

We've always been very happy with Dulles Gateway in Chantilly. They're on the web if you want to look them up.

try dogtopia or petsmart pet hotels... the petsmart ones have "luxury" "suites" complete with fuzzy bed, tile flooring and TV. i've been very impressed with dogtopia staff... and they have group play times for all the dogs according to size. dogtopia used to be called happy tails. various locations throughout the area.

I love (love, love) All Dogs Club in College Park.

We've used Dogtopia a couple of times and it's been good. I recommend having them give the dog a bath prior to pick up otherwise they stink pretty bad.

To second the PP's recommendation, we have also been pleased with our experience with Dulles Gateway. It's near Dulles airport, so if you're flying in and out of there, it can be very convenient, as well. I guess this qualifies as a "kennel" but I found it was very humane and clean, with the option to request group or one-on-one playtime and walks. When we returned, they even gave us photos of our pup with his human companion for the week.

I second the Petsmart Petshotel. The one in Bethesda is very nice. If you don't mind the trek, Dogtown is also great. It's in Brandywine MD. I think the website is www.dogtownmaryland.com
