| Anyone else in this boat? Lately, my daughter’s team is scheduled for additional practices and scrimmages at the last minute, often on a day or two notice (sometimes the same day) and these extra practices and scrimmages are often on weeknight afternoons starting early at 4:30. It is incredibly frustrating to me and difficult to manage with work and other siblings’ activities. We make arrangements based on a schedule and understand some last-minute changes but this level of additional commitments at the last minute seems unnecessary and disruptive. Just wondering how common this is (we’ve played travel for several years and never experienced it until now.) TIA! |
| Why not ask the coach what is going on? |
| I will but I am trying to gauge what is going on And whether this is common as the kids get older. I suspect some of this is being driven by the team manager. |
| We've gotten a fair amount of that for my son's U13 team too. With grass fields largely closed due to weather and covid-related restrictions on capacity, it's been hard for our club to get enough field space for all of the teams to have more than one practice per week. Coaches are scrambling to grab any space that might come available for an extra practice or scrimmage, but they often don't have more than a couple of days' notice themselves that they can get space. Our coaches are as frustrated as anyone by the situation, but it's a choice between last minute additions to the schedule and just not practicing/playing. They understand that not everyone will be able to accommodate the changes, though. |
| Between Covid and the weather scheduling is extremely difficult right now. |
| Not common at our club but we have a turf field. Turf and dedicated fields was definitely a factor for us when choosing a club. This time of year and early spring are terrible for grass fields. |
| It is so annoying. We have a set swim schedule that can't be changed b/c of pool space and covid. Then we get random practice times. So frustrated. |
*a* turf field = very small club |
This, plus HS sports are starting to return, which further complicates things. It's been a bit of a pain, but I'm grateful my kids are still playing, so certainly not worth complaining about. |
| And not just spring HS sports but deferred HS sports from other seasons for many schools... like football. |
That would be to easy and make sense, no one that sits on these forums want honest answers. They only yearn for empty answers and gossip. |
